Sometimes adversity leads to opportunity.  During the Great Recession when an estimated 50% of all architects were unemployed, a college friend had an idea for a hand-truck that would help him lift heavy machinery in and out of his work vehicle and onto tables.  I designed and drafted patent documents for a machine that would move and lift up to 500 lbs to countertop height.  Together we started a business to sell the machines, won a number of awards, and sold the company to Southworth Inc in 2013.
